EXPERIENCE

Habitation have completed a diverse range of projects, this is a testament to our adaptability and the underlying strengths of our approach. Our clients benefit from our ability to integrate and apply specific knowledge across a wide range of service areas.

planning and the Urban Environment

Good urban design is derived from an in depth understanding of the site and typologies of the buildings and urban fabric. Our urban design approach to project has been backed by intensive experience in constructing the detail in the urban environment.

The understanding of urban typologies informs the design process at a conceptual level, hence developing a building from and type that will work successfully on many levels providing efficiency both during the planning stages and in construction. Our experience has provided with an understanding and respect for both the buildings and spaces between them that make up the urban fabric.

The knowledge and dedication of our planners and architects have afforded them recognition in the urban design work that they undertake.

Local Government

Key personnel of the team have worked within both State and local government across New South Wales. This relationship has continued through a variety of projects Habitation have undertaken.

This relationship has led to a greater understanding of the operations and processes involved within Council and the development of a partnership approach to meet the objectives of the project. Our  wide experience and political acumen delivers results and reduces hassles during community and stakeholder consultation.

PHILOSOPHY

UNDERSTANDING OF CLIENT AND CONTEXT

Architecture is inherently the act of habitation, part of a continuum that seeks connections among people, place, and culture. Centered on careful examination of site and climate, qualities of light, and the human experience all projects are unique.

With exceptional design the everyday experiences can be heightened by the ambience of the setting , the play with colour, volume, sunlight and texture.

We listen to our clients and understand their needs and objectives. By working with the client from concept to completion we can ensure their vision and our knowledge inform the design solution for the best results.

The environments we create are responsive to the individual characteristics of the people place and programmes - the context in which we live. These characteristics consistently distinguish the work by HABITATION

HOW WE WORK

Our holistic methodology ensures the success and quality of our work with a comprehensive design service.

We acknowledge the changing expectations of building owners in the current climate of building usage and procurement. The industry must now encompass pluralistic concerns beyond the traditional ‘On Time and On Budget’ criteria. Life cycle costing, environmental performance, workplace practices, joint venture delivery and particularly the role of urban design have all become crucial project elements.

Service Areas

We have a wide commission base, however our approach is the same for all projects, high quality advice and service, balancing social and environmental issues against commercial realities.

Our clients benefit from our ability to integrate and apply specific knowledge across a wide range of service areas including:

ARCHITECTURE
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
URBAN DESIGN
STRATEGIC PLANNING
STATUTORY PLANNING
ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS

Philosophy

A diverse and healthy environment is fundamental and essential to a healthy society - socially, economically and ecologically. In all our work there is a strong commitment to develop and continually improve the quality of the social, physical and natural environment.

Sustainability is not simply an add on - it is an integral principle embodied within every project. It considers resource and energy efficiency, healthy buildings and materials, protection of the ecology and an aesthetic sensitivity that inspires, affirms and ennobles humanity.

Practice

We really understand sustainability and how it can be used to promote your project and comply with new regulatory requirements. We approach sustainability through an understanding of typologies and systems. This informs the design process at a conceptual level, hence developing a building form that will work on many levels, providing efficiency during the planning stages and in construction.

For all our projects we conduct research and investigation into the most sustainable methods of construction - taking into account maintenance and life cycle issues will be factors of concern for which we have demonstrated research experience.

We enjoy setting new standards for sustainable development in Australia.

We understand new regulations in the area of sustainability such as BASIX as we helped create it. In particular we have been recognised for our incorporation of sustainability practices in the public domain. Our water sensitive urban design practices have won awards.

PEOPLE

We have a genuine studio based work environment with team based problem solving and partners that lead and are actively involved in the projects.
